Folks, This is not a fishing question, but rather an ice depth question. Any problems with venturing out on Rainy Lake this weekend? (April 26-2Cool How thick is the ice? Thanks!

FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 33"
Well Boys, the fishing was tough last weekend. Finally found a few but they were all still very deep/ 24 - 45 fow. No monsters this year but a couple very healthy midrange fish. Travel conditions were the worst I have ever seen. 2 feet of snow on top. 18 inches of slush. In many areas a foot of water under that. Even the snowmobiles easily got stuck once you went off the road or snomo trail. But the beer was cold, the food was great and Woody's bartender put up with our crappola very well.

Can trucks get around on the ice Fellas or is there too much slush and snow?

Getting ready for the big trip. Can I get a report on ability to travel around the lake? Only on the plowed roads or can a truck get about anywhere? Thanks.

We have a Guys Houseboat trip coming up mid August.

Anyone have any reports or general info. Trying to get a head start by studying the Hot Spots Map. We are hiring a guide for a day or 2, so that should help.

Anyone fish for Muskies? I hear they are not as plentiful on the Minnesota side, compared to the Canadian side.

Is this true?

Info please!

Thanks, and Good Fishing!

R U ,

Where do you plan on launching ? If you launch at Voyageurs , run east on the main lake . Fish the reefs , or, main lake drops almost anywhere along there for walleyes . Lindy rigs , or, crawler harnesses with spinners , or leaches . Perch , I couldn't tell you but, pike can still be found in weedy bays on spinner baits and crank/stick baits . Try points in bays as well as the main lake .

Not sure how long you plan to be there but, hiring a guide for this lake is money well spent ! I did it right out of the chutes , and several more times to get the seasonal patterns as well . It's worth it . You can hire one through many outlets on the lake , or , in the Falls . Check with the Falls Motel , they have a website . Good Luck .

I will be coming to Rainy Lake for the first time ever on July 5th. Can anyone give me any pointers on where I will be able to locate perch and pike and walleyes. I will be staying in International Falls. Will trailer to the lake each day. Thanks much.

FISHING REPORT
6/9/12 7:41 AM CST
Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 76° - 80º F Water Temp: 61° - 65° F
Spent the last three days fishing on the east end near Willow bay . The walleyes were shallow , about 5-7 feet of water on rock points where the wind blew in . All fish came on blue and chrome stickbaits running about 4' deep . Walleyes up to 26" , and smallmouth as well . What a blast , to not have to mess with live bait and the retrictions in Ontario waters . We will be back in mid July for the reef fishing .

Guys I am getting ready to come up for the annual ice trip. Can someone give me ice reports? How much ice? Easy to get around by truck or snow up to my eyeballs? Just getting itchy for information. Thanks. 80

I was up there last week. Go East of the Brule Narrows and fish Sag and Marion Bays. Look for cabbage in 6 - 9 fow. cast shad raps and you will catch northerns and walleyes. Mayfly hatch was last week and early the walleyes were hard to catch on the deep humps but later in the week we did better. Started at 32 - 35 fow but later in the week found walleyes both in deeper 40 - 45 and shallowers 20 - 25 fow. Use your electronics and don't be afraid to look around. I caught a 37 and 38 inch northern and my wife caught a 41. Tons of walleyes and smb. West of the narrows you will see lots of folks fishing deep water humps.

We have always used 1/2 crawler with a jig and jigs and leeches and have had great success.

Most reports I see refer to using monnows with a jig, is a 1/2 crawler or a leech not a good bait on Rainy during the summer months.

Not a fishing report. I'm looking to rent a cabin on Rainy Lake for the last week of September, and was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at Island View Lodge? And what your opinion was about the resort & accommodations? Thanks for any info.
