Forest Lake, Washington County (all postings)

Fished lake 3 on Jan 3 out from the launch in the middle of all the shanties. Fished from 3pm to 8pm, caught 40 to 50 perch,gills and crappies no fish over 6". All fish caught on spikes, had minnows out with no luck. DNR was sitting at the launch checking, no problems he was a good guy.

Bass fishing on Forest Lake the last week has been good. Early in the morning fish have been active on the flats in 3-5 feet of water. Forest Lake has a variety of weed types in shallow. Focus on the transition between weed types as well as the transition from sand to weeds.

When the shallow, early morning bite slows down, move out to the outside weed lines, which are developing nicely and starting to hold fish. The key to finding bass on those outside weed lines is locating cabbage.

Catching lots of bass on frogs in shallow, and jig worms and crank baits as you move to the outside weed line. Also expect to catch a number of northerns and the occasional muskie on those outside weed edges.

Gotta love bass fishing! Walleye fishing is nice and all, but nothing is quite like having a bass on your line, flipping his head back and forth to throw your hook.

Got out on Forest Lake for a little while mid-day yesterday. All it takes is a 90+ degree day and a holiday weekend to bring everyone out! The landing was busy, including a guy with a 28-foot sailboat who was struggling with something, sitting there for at least a few hours. I give him credit though for being courteous and moving out of everyone’s way.

The goal for the day was largely to try out our new rod and reel combinations for the year and make sure the kinks are out of the system. Caught some bass up shallow using flukes. Water temperature was 66.

fishapolooza......................not gonna lie i was kinda annoyed that there were about 300people on the ice at 8am already when there was supposed to be no access to the are prior to 8 am.....kinda screwed our group over. and to the guy that was wineing about not enough holes being drilled and getting more drilled where u wanted them - get there earlier maybe before 1130 and u can fish where u wanted to, be nice if the contest was more controlled and the rules followed. not sure if were going to do it again or not.

sorry for complaining on here but people should know what there getting into so if they are going to attend they can plan accordingly like gettin there at 6am

Did well for our first try at the big derby Saturday. all three of us placed on the board with northerns. Had a good time with both my sons. Plan on doing it again. Thanks to the folks that gave info about the lake and derby, appreciate it! Tight lines.

well there is plenty of ice out there 20 plus inches but there is about a foot of snow though out the lake making travel a little harder but very easy to get unstuck four wheel drive recommended i don't fish much on first lake but have been fairly successful on second and third but have heard first has been alright for some if you know where to be good luck at the fund raiser shouldnt be a bad day out there

gonna be heading to fishapolooza this weekend, just wondeirng what the ice condtions are like, how thick, snow on top or not? i was there last year and had a blast. i already know where we are fishing if someone could please give me a heads up on the ice id appreciate it, thanks

The bites on Forest Lake is still very good. I know I see a bunch of folks huddling shallow areas, and thats fine, I decided to go to my areas of open waters(the past two wks) and it has been decent. I caught a pikes from 15"-29", walleyes 7"-28", and black crappies and perchs(small). The rock bed/point on (i believe the northern shore) is producing. there is also a little stream that runs during open water. Good luck to everyone at fishapalooza!!!!

ridiculous how tight lipped people are about giving info on this " Fund Raiser" of a contest. like skill will really seperate the winners here out of 10,000 lines hanging down fifteen feet apart. Its a FUND raiser folks.

Will be coming up there from IL for the week for Fishapalooza and wondering if anyone who fishes this lake has any tips/pointers on where to go?? Im happy to catch anything....any help would be greatly appreciated!!

How is the ice fishing this year? Witch one of the 3 lakes is poppin?
