This is actually from last Saturday which was not the day to be fishing on Mille Lacs.  It was raining and blowing terrible there were 4-5 foot waves where we were.  I took two buddies fishing and that is where they wanted to go.  Bummer.  Tried what I would call normal conditions.  It was to windy for spinners, so we pulled out the lead core and crankbaits.  Deep divers, no luck.  Tried different baits from 28-30 feet of water.   Nothing.  So I decided to go in shallow running paralle with the waves.  Ran smaller baits, 14-18 feet of water in the gravel.  We found them.  We ended up catching about 20 cookie cutter walleyes all in the 16-18 inch range.   It was great to see this size fish in a lake that doesn't have any walleyes in it!!

Bill, I was just getting ready to post another report and seen your question.  We were catching Walleyes, that is pretty much what I fish about 80% of the time.

Hit Mille Lacs this past weekend.  Testing out some new crankbaits that will be on the market next spring. We caught lots of fish, and most of them were over 25", with the biggest one going 28.5".  We ran the new bait side by side with a Mille Lacs favorite, the new bait out caught the Mille Lacs favorite 5 fish to none while we were running them side by side, that was nice to see.

If you enjoy catchin big fish, you have to get to Mille Lacs.  Again this year it is on fire.  Still catching fish leeches rigging or bobbers, crawlers on spinners, and crankbaits.  We've been catching small fish in the 16-18 inch range as well which is nice to see for a lake that does not have any Walleyes in it.

Memorial Day week end report.  Fished the entire weekend and caught fish.  Not a ton of fish, but all very nice fish.  Sizes from 22" to 26", averaging on the larger side.  Also 2 bass, and a Pike.  We caught fish on alot of different techniques from spinners, jigs, deep, shallow.  Everything seemed to work just didn;t find any numbers.

I caught only 2 fish during opening weekend, but one was a 27-inch walleye. I caught it on the north shore in about 15-feet of water using a minnow.

On May 12 at sunset, a buddy caught at 32-inch northern pike on a large shiner in about 10 feet of water. Another buddy landed 22- and 18-inch walleyes with minnows in the same depth.

Otherwise, it was pretty slow for us. Other boats seems to be catching 'em though.

Group of 5 did a one night sleeper last thursday, I got skipped the overnight bite and got there at 7am for the morning bite. They missed two overnight so it was pretty slow though they didn't get there till after dark. Morning bite was good IMO, a couple slot walleye and a thick 28 1/2". Tullibee were also active and kept us busy. Packed up by 10AM to head north for the weekend. Fished 30 fow with all fish caught on spoons tipped with a full minnow.

This report is for Feb. 12th - Feb. 14th. We went here and rented a cabin through Hunter-Winfeld Resort. We got a cabin in 32 FOW. we jigged for perch and tullibee and walleye. We set rigs for burbot (AKA eelpout) and used a marcum and fish camera. The first night was slow with a few takes and one small 16in walleye on a rattle reel. The next morning we got another rattle reel with a 26.5 in walleye. The rest of the time we marked fish and saw a walleye, a burbot and a few perch on the camera. nothing would bite so we set up a pop-up shack by the rock island on Tuesday in 10 FOW. marked a bunch of small perch, but caught nothing the rest of the time. We also put out tip-ups every day all day until midnight, but never got a flag.

All-in-all, was not a very great trip. The resort upgraded us from a 20 to a 24 footer. Reason unknown. Was a nice cabin, just had to go to the bathroom in a trash bag in a can. Cold and between the 4 of us, one of us caught 2 fish.

I believe this is a great lake as I have ice fished here before. Just a slow few days and an improper location in the gravel areas. Golden shiners are the most expensive and caught nothing. The walleye were on mud minnows purchased from a bait shop 30 miles away. kept the minnows alive in a rubber-maid container. Very thick ice. 8 in power stroke gas auger Eskimo 2016 got bottomed out and got stuck twice.
