Lake Medora (all postings)

Heading up on Wednesday for 4 days. Anyone have water temps and reports on smallie action?

Got to fish Medora 8/11 in the PM. Fished from around 6pm till sunset. Got a few smallies along the 10-13 FOW mark between the two west points. Also got one Walleye and 4-5 Smallies along the 10-15 fow line along the THREE islands on the east side plus kept going over the 7ft hump out about 125yds from the middle island. Lost one shad rap to the rocks but still got fish. Biggest smallie was 16" right after a 14"er back to the north of the landing and back in the bay a bit. We were running the 10'-11' line as close as possible with shad raps of Walley or Crawfish pattern SR8's and SR9's at 1.7 mph, Just raise your rod tip towards the sky completely vertical if you have to, to prevent snagging. 5' rod with about 60yds of line out will run 11' easy and if you put your rod tip straight above you that will bring your lure up about 5-6' making runs over 5' humps possible. Had a blast. Hope to get back up next year and try again. In 2010 I got an 18" smallie along the north shoreline casting same lure I used this year but it was in about 7fow and in weeds.

Late post but I've gotta help reports on UP lakes. We take an annual trip to Portage in June and hit Medora as well. On Medora, we boated 40+ smallies in 4 hours but nothing over 3 lbs, seems like they don't get much bigger... Portage produced nice pike up to 34" and walleye up to 27". Smallies in portage were fun with the biggest being 4 lbs. Bonus fish was a 3 -15 largie. Medora was a treat... and we will be back!

Where I found walleye two years ago was over on the west side off the southern point. There are some really large rocks over there and off the south edge of those rocks it drops off to ??? 10-13' or so Id guess. We sat off the south edge about 20 yds and cast light jigs with pieces of night crawler on them. Got smallies/walleye. Nothing big but was fun none the less. Will probably be using our 15' V-hulls over here but camp on Bailey and use our kayaks quite a bit there. I wanna try Gratiot and have a thread started I think, Also I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck on Torch Lake. Medora, last year, when I left my camera at the cabins had TWO Bald Eagles perched on top of a tree on the single island off the point that you can see from the landing. Love this lake and plan on making atleast one possibly two trips to it when up there this year.

Fished Medora last Saturday in a kayak and had a blast because the smallmouth were biting. There was a decent chop in the lake but that didn't hinder us as we sought refuge in the calm sides of the beautiful islands and casted leeches with a hook and split shot presentation into the rough/calm transition areas. Didn't have a depth finder but was working and estimate 8-12 ft water. Caught about 15 smallies, most in the two-three pound range. All were released unharmed. Really enjoyed being able to rest on the islands and have lunch. One beautiful lake. Would love to try to find some walleyes when I return.

Oh there are walleye. Ive caught quite a few two years ago. Found a drop off on the west side at sunset or just before with jig's and night crawlers. Got quite a few of them. Not much for size but still good numbers. Probably 25 in 10 min for 3 people. Not too bad. I'll take numbers over a single big one any day. Especially with kids in the boat.

i heard there is some monster smallies in this lake not sure about walleyes though.

I have fished this lake a few times last year. Got one 18" small mouth but no walleye. Is there a special way to get the walleye on Medora? Has anyone been fishing it yet this year other than locals?
