Ducks, My dad said yesterday that the bay froze over. If it stays cold maybe the ice will hold. I'm crossing my fingers too as I'll be there in a month.

Might also be worth a shot if you're willing to travel to try Ashland Wisconsin for trout. A wisconsin first time buyer license is $25 or $10 per day great lakes salmon trout.

Ducks Forever,

You might want to call someone around there for an ice report. My dad lives in L'Anse and hasn't mentioned anything in a while about ice besides my cousins kid open water fishing at the mouth of the river or Rock dock.

I fished the bay for years and I would head off the Red Rocks. Maybe call Indian Country Sports and ask for an ice report. They're throwing distance from the lake so they should know.

Been fishing the bay pretty hard. I've been catching good numbers of Lakers in 150 to 180 ft. I was reeling up to quit the other day and got slammed by a salmon right under the ice. Ended up loosing it but very exciting.Anyone else have a good depth to report? By the way if you travel by foot bring the ice cleets!

Cameron, I would call Indian Country Sports Shop in L'anse they are probably your best source for the bay.

Fished off the whirley gig or what ever that is. Was between 206 and 220 fow. Hard to tell with those stick things. First time out there. Got one laker 16. Some guys got their limit. Others not. Watch the ice. 5 inches in some spots and 1 inch in another. Some atv's and snowmobiles out there but most on foot with spud bars. Next time we will do better now that we know what the bump feels like. I missed one that kept trying but I was to slow.

Can anyone tell me what the ice conditions are for the Bay? I was planning on heading up there early tomorrow to fish it for the first time. The Bait store there is closed on Sundays so I can't get any current info from them. Would like to know the ice conditions, thickness, where are good access points, are guys walking out or driving ATV's. Any help is appreciated.

How deep of water do they fish there. I want go vie it a try but not sure if my regular gear works or do I need the wire stuff to fish in 100 plus feet of water. Any other tips for out there would be great. I have fished out of Ashland and Saxon but never this area. I love less than an hour away so I want to give it a try.

ICE DEPTH
4 inches
I was out on Tuesday, walked out from the pump house. After crossing the frozen floe ice near shore, we walked about a half mile out and had 4-5" of solid black. Fished for about four hours with about 6 hits and nothing on the ice.
