Anyone have an idea where the Mrs. and I could target some of the splake that come into the harbor/more shallow areas in the fall to spawn? I know guys target them from the U.P. area(s), I just don't know where they're fishing at. Any other tips/misc tidbits would be appreciated also. Thanks, Gregory

The breakwall at the park has some huge Northern and Smallmouth along the rocks near the lights. Big chubs, suckers or perch work for bait. If you can stay in the cold water long enough, try snorkeling along the wall. They will let you get close if you don't move too quickly.

Medora, Gratiot, Lac Labelle.

They are not all that close maybe a 35 minute drive from the park. Small Mouth and Walleye and Pike in them all. Also Perch and other pan fish.

The Protage and Portage lake have an abundance of area and it is always good fishing. Walleye Smallies and Pike. Been a few weeks since I have been there but try asking at the local bait shops where the action is on the portage.

GO back in to Houghton and fish The Portage!..

Or try any of the inland lakes up in the area north of Houghton and Hancock.
