Gonna be heading home from CO to MI on the 14th, Does it look like there will still be open water around that time? I live on the west side of the state but would love to head out and pound some walleye while I am in the area. Could someone let me know if its worth my time. Thanks!

FISHING REPORT
3/3/12 9:13 PM CST
Late Report from thursday, The fishing was hot, lots of little walleye but managed a limit of 16-17" fish, only saw one 20"+ fish boated all day, orange and chartreuse fireball with stinger worked great, They opened the floodgates on the tittabawassee on friday so fishing in the river will be impossible for a week or so, plus all the new precip, hopefully it will get good one more time before the closer.

Any launch in Saginaw is good, Fireballs are jigs designed for vertical jigging for walleye, they have a short shank and wide gap and an extra eyelit for stinger hooks.

Fished the river yesterday, wind was a pain but the action was hot. All the undersize walleye you could ever want. Ended up with 5 just legal fish between 3 guys. The hot color was orange and chartreuse fireball, stingers were a must.

Fished the stretch of the river from the mouth of the tittabawasee down passed the old holley hole today. Caught a couple channel cats but no walleye.  Fished with emerald shiners and a wide variety of fireballs.  The river was a little swift combined with high pressure meant little action but a beatiful day on the water.  Reports have been that the fishing has been good when the weather cooperates.

The Walleye are beginning to enter from the bay. Fished from Wickes Park and down the weekend of the 6th. The fish were real finicky and picky. Was real hard to get keeper fish. Majority of the fish were averaging around 14". They were hitting orange & 2 tone yellow/green jigheads with minnies. Water vis was great around 2 feet or so. Its only gonna be getting better from here on out. Good luck everyone.
