I camped and fished Bond Falls this past weekend and the skeeters and gnats were ravenous.I've been camping this area for the past 18 years and have never seen it this bad!

I recommend calling the entrance station at 906-358-4404 for skeeter info. They may have some fishing info, but that will depend on the fishing knowledge of the employee. I called with some questions yesterday and the guy said that at the end of last week he heard from a camper that the bass bite was just getting started, but I could tell he was not a fisherman. You shouldn't expect "bait shop owner" caliber info. Perhaps call Sylvania Outfitters?

Am thinking about taking kids camping this weekend, any word on how bad the skeeters are? Anyone been fishing in the last week here?

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 61° - 65° F
Was there this past weekend. We stayed on mountain lake and the bass were not very active only managed a few, mix of largemouth and smallmouth. Sunday took the portage to West Bear and the Bluegills were very hungry. Well worth the portage. 4 guys 100+ fish in a couple of hours. All still swimming, but would have made a nice fish fry. Didn't matter what you threw, they were trying to hit my Leinenkugel"s bobber. Good times!

I second the request for info. When the ice came off the lakes would be a good start. I will be up there June 20-23...spawn probably will still be going then.

Bofish2,

Are you fishing for smallmouth? If so, then I highly suggest getting Senkos. Great for largemouth too! Sylvania Outfitters sells nonscented Senkos. You can Texas rig them or wacky rig them (Google that if unfamiliar) using an offset hook (can be weighted or weightless depending on the depth). Cast out and let it sink to bottom, especially if near sunken timber. Twitch it using the rod tip and slowly reel in the slack every few seconds...more effective than hard baits in my experience.

Going up tomorrow through Friday morning for the first time. I am thinking about using topwaters and spinnerbaits and maybe some cranks. I am not the greatest with plastics and I don't have any that aren't scented
