Big Creek Lake, Polk County (all postings)

Well went out thursday and punched a nton of holes all arround the lake over brush piles, over the road bed and down by the dam. So we marked fish and saw them on the camera, but no takers! we tried minnows waxies and spikes all sorts of jigs even the big walleye jigs and nothing. It was a great day to be out and got to gps new ceder tree spots. I think that big creek has seen alot of pressure for sure i would suggest form ponds till the end of the season.

I did pound the bottom, but keep jigging. Next time out I will let it sit. Thanks

Glad i could help! Did you try slamming the jig on the bottom 4-5 times then dead sticking? this seems to entice the lookers.

Thanks MIDIRA for the walleye tip. Out on BC last evening, did catch one 13" walleye right of the bottom 35fow. On road bed west and no. of handicap pier. Marked tons of fish assume gills or crappie suspended in 20 to 30 fow. Tried minnows, minnow heads and waxies, could not get to bite. It was a fun evening none the less.

There are keeper walleye in there for sure, but alot of cigar size fish r being caught. The big ones r very hard to pattern in there I would try off the handycap peir over the old road bed. Try using a bannana shaped glow jig tipped with hole live minnow or just a minnow head that might bring in the big one.

Thanks MIDIRA for your reply on Big Creek, early evening bite seems to be good. Any luck with keeper Walleye.? I have caught a bunch of dinks but no keepers. I fish the lake in a boat during open water so I'm pretty familiar with locations.

if a guy can find those sunkin brush piles u can do really well right befor sunset with gills and crappie. I used a sweedish pimple glow tipped with waxies in about 20 feet of water.

Got on the lake around 2pm. Lots of trucks in the lake. Fished road bed east of small boat ramp (Williams ramp I think) in 35 fow. Not much action till around 4:30. Caught two nice Bluegill suspendsing 15 to 30 fow, on wax worms. Had to get back to town. Going out later in week at 5pm and stay longer. Anyone elso having luck at Big Creek?
