I know a couple of weeks ago the shore fishermen were doing pretty good at MC. To answer your question, it will depend on two main factors 1. Water temperature and 2. Baitfish. In just this last week the water temperature in Trail Creek rose from 46 degrees to 52 degrees. I don't know what the preferred water temp is for the baitfish, but I am guessing it is not much over 50 degrees. So as the river water warms the baitfish will move out into the open lake where the preferred water temps are.

That said, when we were out the other day, we only marked about two bait clouds the entire day in the lake. Ultimately, how long the coho hang tight in good numbers on the south end of the lake will depend upon how much bait is present for them to eat.

Thank you for the very infomative fishing report, I am anxious to get out there and try my luck at some of these early season Coho's from a boat

I was out on the PIER in Michigan City last Tuesday (3/30) from about 12:30- 2:30 did not have any luck. The wind was howling and made it a little tough despite the warmer weather. I did see one guy with 2 Coho's on a stringer that came on Shrimp under a slip bobber, although he was out there all day. Overall the action was slow. I did see some guys with a couple of White Fish also.

Does anyone know how long these Coho's stay in close to shore, or at what temperature they decide to go back out into the lake? Thank you in advance on any additonal info you could provide on getting a couple of these fish in my net. Good fishing to everyone out there!!

Fished out of MIchigan City yesterday and went 20 for 31 for a four man limit of coho. Lost one nice brown at the boat about 10 pounds. Fish came on gold/orange 1/2 oz Rattlin Thinfins, Firetiger Frenzy's and 00 dodger and fly combos. Overall gold was probably the best color as water was still a little dirty from last weeks blow. Concentrate between the pierhead and the outer breakwall to the east. Trolling speed was 1.8 - 2.1.

Mother Nature hasn't been kind with the NE blow. Too rough to get out yesterday and the fish were really scattered today with NO size. Thanks to Yank & Crank I'll have some tasty perch to put on the table. Great Guy to be in a boat with. How about some more reports from this area, I know your out there.

Thanks for all the feedback. No worries though as the two of us got our limit in 5 hrs. All fish caught on fatheads in 34 - 44 FOW. Never had to go further west than the "black ditch" from W.H.

Tony on Rt. 12. You should be ashamed of what your selling as crappie/fatheads. As of Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon perch were anywhere from 21 fow to 40 fow on a controlled drift. Jumbos were hard to come by, but were found in a tight area of 29 ft. - 31 ft. Thanks Yank & Crank for a GREAT TIme. If your coming from Chi-Town try and bring fatheads they will be a lot bigger than what you will get in M.C.
