Fished a few spots on Channel today, caught a few crappie, 1 short walleye 13" and another pushing 26". I also caught a nice size catfish on my crappie pole, what a fight. I kept a few crappie everything else was released, I was fishing in 8 to 12' pitching 1/4 oz jigs with extra large fatheads.

Fished Sunday with a friend and caught a bunch of crappies, biggest was just shy of 13", everything was in 4' or less of water. We were using a gill catcher hook with 2 very small Burkley minnows attached to the hook, with a slip bobber.

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Raining Air Temp: 66° - 70° F Water Temp: 40° - 45° F
Went out for the first time and fished Channel. There were thousands of dead shad. Tons of dead shad on the shore and dozens floating on water surface. About 2.5 hours of fishing and then the storm came rolling in with rain and lightning. Got off just in time to catch all the hail on the way home. How is one suppose to catch a musky with all these dead shad? Another fishless day on the Fox Chain.

friend called said paper said plenty of ice and crappie bite, true .but getting to good ice depends on if the wind has shifted ice on my side of the lake assume that means other side is moving too, crappie bite means you know where on the lake that is well it is north end but only maybe 5% of the north end and not the same 5% 90% of the fisherman normally fish most years. long hike live here an am done ice fishing this year here advise you pass on this lake for ice fishing this year, been worst year in the 39 years I have ice fished this lake .

Have seen people hunting fish ain't talked to anyone who have found many, deep water bite is mostly lookers no takers maybe it is me don't deep water fish much any more been years sense fishing the chain deep. I guess marks are better than no marks but fish that take a bait would be better. today I hit Catherine about the same story 1/2 dozen crappie and stripper mixed about 1 an hour, will take. if and when you can get on them they move a lot.

drove by south end about noon ,no one on that end of lake it has been years over 10 anyway when their was no one fishing the south end with good weather and great ice, The Dog DAYS of winter ice fishing is here ,most ice fisherman fishing these days around northern il don't even know about winter dog days ,the fish just quit feeding for a 10 to 20 day period ,you need to hunt for feeding fish now finding fish ain't so hard but feeding fish that is another story, any way tried the north end of channel not even a nipple, the only thing I found was a pair of young ice fisherman with a sick quad. headed over to Catherine found some dink gills not one keeper today ,still better than tv, not sure if am fishing here anymore this week or someplace else.

Fished northend for a couple hours twice this week 6 gills 3 perch gills were under 5 inches 1 perch might have been a keeper but fish look bigger if you ain't catching any .. that said have not fished the far west bay the flats or even got to the catfish hole ,been looking for weeds and gills along east shore and in middle toward weeds have 2 other spots that side I need to check but it don't look good on the north end for gills so far. Ice seems good on lake have not found less than 10 inches and a lot of 12 and 14 inches of ice found. no geese in lake so no goose holes on north end have not been south so don't know what is that way.

Anyone fish Channel lately? Been hitting Pistakee lately but its been off and on. Used to fish right out in front of the old Mentones a few years back and did pretty good on above avg. size whites and some yellows too with a walleye or two mixed in. 20-30 feet of water. Anyone been out in this area? Thinking of giving this another shot.

Not a report, but some info. Used to fish the north end of Channel, never fished the south end until 2 years ago. THE spot was just north and west of the saddle area. There was a long weed bed than ran parallel to the bank. Drilled holes parallel to the outside edge of the weed bed, some 1 foot outside, some 2 feet inside. 8 to 10 fow, morning and evening bite lasted about 1 hour then they disappeared. Long walk these days so haven't tried that pattern in years...if you can make the walk give it a try.
