Lake Summerset Fish Club needs your input! We would like to get an honest assessment of the panfish conditions in the lake, specifically: How are the sizes now and compared to say 5 years ago? How has the winter bite been? What is your overall satisfaction with panfishing at this point? Please take a couple minutes to send in a brief comment. Thanks! WE NEED YOUR INPUT OR THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE. Send to following link or post here.

Appologize for not getting back sooner on the issues. Didn't get on PC till just now from a few days ago.

The club would like to see more of you guys attend our monthly meetings. They are very informal and we don't have official "members". Come once or everytime. Guests are totally welcome. We had 900 daily guest passes in 2009 and could count guests that attend a Fish Club meeting on one hand. With budgets the way they are we need the support to keep stocking dollars intact. It's hard for a handful of us to do everything. Strength in numbers. We can always use help for our fundraising days and stocking help too. Meetings first Thursday each month at the Office at the main gate. 7pm and usually last an hour.

Gulp is legal as are cut-bait fish caught in LS. Certain preserved real minnows in jars are now labeled "certified VHS-free" meaning they were clean before killed and packed. Dead minnows in a baggie for instance are not legal.

Greenhead, I thought so but he said Gulp-type fake leeches and jarred minnows that are marked as certified VHS-free. I thought he meant it had to say that on the bottle of Gulp. Hate to get in trouble with lake police up there. Lsfishclub, could you please clarify this? Coming up there soon, dont want to have anything illegal in my arsenal. Big Smile GL

I said " treated minnows and leeches". As in dead, processed, freeze dried, store bought, legal in Summerset, minnows and leeches.

To clarify on previous post, LIVE minnows or LIVE leeches are NOT allowed in Lake Summerset. Only live bait allowed are worms and larvae. You are allowed to use Gulp-type fake leeches and jarred minnows that are marked as certified VHS-free.

FISHING REPORT
1/6/11 10:30 AM CST
Ice Depth: 12" Conditions: Cloudy
Fished 10 AM - 6 PM. The bite started slow. Moved around a little didn't mark many fish. Caught a few perch in the 5 - inch range in 14 - 17 FOW. Picked up and moved around 3. Started marking schools of fish in 20 - 24 FOW, and had no trouble getting them to bite.. The bluegills were mostly of the 5 - 7 inch variety with a few 8 inchers scattered in. The Crappies were the majority of the fish caught. mostly 6 - 8 inches, with a few around 10 or 11". Our group of 4 caught easily over 100 fish.. We kept enough for a meal or 2. Bait size, style or color didn't seem to matter much if you were on fish, but darker color horizontal type jigs with plastics was the most effective on crappies. Doubles were common and the fishing was fast paced at times, pulling fish as fast as you could get back down. The size was somewhat frustrating though, and at times we'd just change jigs because we got tired of catching fish, and in effort to find something to coax the bigger fish. We had out 3 tip-up baited with treated minnows and leeches. No flags.

Starting to see more perch this year. Crappie and bluegill quite small that I caught. Had something nice on but hook wasn't set. Never saw it but was fun for about a minute.
