Lake Summerset, Winnebago County
Went out and drove around the lake this morning.
Bays are totally frozen over and shallows almost all the way up to beach 2 are frozen over. Still open water after that. Im ure by the end of next week with temps in the teens she will be totally ice covered.
Wont be long now, tune up those augers
It seems they are all in deeper water.
Been killing crappie in around 20 feet of water on a black and green tube jig.Mostly by the dam and points fo the bays. If i get in 20 ft they bite like crazy, but if you float to 23 feet there is nothing. Its been one of those years that it pays to have a boat
If you are planning on shore fishing dont even think about going until just before dark and staying til about a half hour after.
The water is so clear right now that i dont think the fish come in until later in the evening
I agree the water is really green, i think its from the crazy weather. From what i have read its from algea growing. I have also read that it can be very bad for the fish since it uses up all the oxygen in the water. It really concerns me because the fishing has been horrible lately and if doesnt clear up we could have a major fish kill. I think we need a few days of really good rain.
I remember it happening one time when i was younger at a lake in wisconsin, it killed almost every crappie in the lake, you could almost walk across the lake on dead fish.
What is going on with the water in Lake Summerset? The water is cloudy strange color. I don't see geese or ducks. The boat traffic is little-none. I have not received communication from LSA. Does anyone know the status? Is is safe for fishing and swimming? Thanks

The fish were biting like crazy on Saturday May 21st. Caught about 20 fish off the dock with my friends on the neon roadrunners. The shore is very weedy where the fish love to lay. We caught some good crappies, and about 5in fat blue gills. Also caught some nice bass along the shore on the boat.
