torchd,

1) The spillway divides the North from the South. If you park by the South Pool boat slip, and walk East on the bike trail you will see it.

2) The large Dam. From Higgins go South on Arlington Heights Road about a mile down on your left hand pull into that entrance and walk down the bike trail. And you can also get to the concrete pier.

3) Why Catch and Release ? Because Me and a handful of other fishermen could really cripple that lake. We call the people who keep under size fish BUCKET-HEADS... And why people take game fish from a small lake is beyond me.

4) The Clack'in Minnow. I have 3 large of different colors and 3 small one's and have not really worked them yet.

I hope this will help you out........

Another questiion for Jim-

You use the Clackin Rap that is lip less and the Clackin Crank the most, how far do these baits dive? What's your presentation with them? Fast reeling or slow reeling?

Also any luck with the Clackin' Minnows yet?

Per Bustacap45 AKA Jim I did what you told me to do. I went back and read 25 pages on this forum.

I must say you catch consistant and quality fish! I love how in every pic you show the lure that you're using.

So I did have some questions still.

1) Where is the spillway that everyone keeps mentioning? I guess there is a dike by the spillway that faces the main and north pool that produces some good fish when using a cheap, brightly colored crank bait.

2) Where is the large damn and the small damn?

3) I think I read where you and a couple of members have asked if people caught fish i think from the North/South Pool they were asked if they put them back into the main pool, why is?

Being that I don't have a boat, reading your advice there is some good fishing by the dike that I asked in question #1. There is some good fishing by the small dam that spills into the mail pool. And the big damn has good fishing too. And I will need to search for the concrete piers that you had mentioned.

I prolly wont try my luck this weekend as it is going to be pretty hot, so maybe sometime next week I will.

Really sucks that I am not familiar with this area at all, and I work not to far away. I also need to find a topological map off Busse.

EDIT: I also read that there is a warm water discharge.. Where is that located?

Thanks to everyone that has helped!

-Jonas

Hey sad to say I haven't gotten out to fish much this year so far. Didn't have much luck the times I did, But I wanted to share this photo with all of you. Last year we were fishing the south pool at the concrete pier & this guy caught this bad boy. All I can say I'm happy he is out of the water because as you can see he was eating very well. Wish people would think before releasing their pets into the wild.

Hello All,

Been to busse last two days with friends. Tried south pool and north pool near fishing wall with lures, no luck. Today tried the main lake by dam and boat docks. Only got one bass small one though. Anyone have suggestions on what to use and where to go? Thanks

Musky Militia, the north and the south pools don't even come close to each other, do you mean the north and main pools or south and pools. I would personally listen to Bustacap, I don't fish Busse often but on a limited time sometimes I go and poke around and always find bluegills everywhere.

torchd,

Here is the best way to learn how to fish Busse Lake. First thing you want to do is go back and read all the past posts. Second is to look at the pictures. Look at the lure in the fish's mouth. Look where he or she is fishing from the background. And there is another good site to check out is http://www.windycityfishing.com And if you do this, You will catch some nice fish. Hope that helps.........

Hey all-

Who wants to give me a 'guided' tour of Busse Lake? The only time that I fished this lake when I was maybe 12 yrs old and that was ice fishing.

Well now that I'm 29, I've haven't fished it since lol.

Who would like to take me under their wings and help me with some fish?

I have some 4" Senkos in different colors, a wacky rig and some other misc set ups.

I really don't know what pools to fish and where to fish at??

Thanks guys!

the true one,

Yes, You can put your boat in. And it's free. But no gas motors. Gas motors must be removed from the boat. Some have tried to just tilt the motor up out of the water, But the Park Ranger will fine you. Hope that will help you.

KenK,

Great job on that Bass, NICE!!!!!! And I love to piss off the BUCKETHEAD. Great job on that too.....

My son caught and released this bass yesterday. Probably over 5 lbs. The bucket boys all cried as it swam away!! Not a great picture, but it is big!!

BustaCap-

Thanks for always sharing your knowledge and techniques about this lake. I appreciate it. Your previous bass, northern, & especially walleye pictures have kept me coming back to busse. Unfortunately, haven't had much success from shore besides bass. While I have caught some really nice bass from a lot of different spots, most are "standard issue."
