Soupbone, I am involved with the fishing tournaments in the area and the population is still there. I am by no means a biologist, but it is a fact that the saugers and walleyes are eating baby asian carp and we as fisherman might need to adjust our tactics or locations to match the hatch and the adaptations of our target species.

Conditions: Sunny Air Temp: 36° - 40° F Water Temp: Below 40° F
Fished out of starved rock Friday morning, only ones at the ramp. Fished from the dam to the I-39 bridge and back again, got nothing! River was up from the rain and snow melt, marked fish but nothing was hitting. Talked with two other boats same outcome nothing. Anyone else have any luck?

Fished out of Spring Valley yesterday. Lot of boats out! Fish seemed to be in the 20 ft. range. Used a jig and minnow. Caught several 12-13". Heard of only a few keepers. Most of the boats were right under the bridge.

has anyone sensed that the river in starved rock area isnt producing the walleyes its used to or is it my imagination?. just what effect are these asian carp having on the walleye, striped bass and sauger populations. last two times out we had no luck at all and asian carp were all over the place. has any biologists made any statements on asian carp effect on this fishery. I know the folks who rune tournaments and sell bait dont want to talk about it but it seems like the fishery is going downhill.

went down river to the are by Henry. There was a walleye tournament going on. I am sure fish were being caught but did not see any. we did not do good either. the highlight was an asian carp jumped into our boat. I always heard of this but never had it happen until now. It was cool but very disappointing also to see how many of them were in the river. do not even know now what fish are on our fish finder. is it all asian carp

FISHING REPORT
10/30/11 8:22 PM CST
Conditions: Raining Air Temp: 46° - 50° F Water Temp: 51° - 55° F
Did welll Saturday fished all day trolled and jigged both. Found Walleye but no Sauger in 12 fow. Plus alot of White Bass. Water Temp Saturday was 54.5 dropped today Sunday 1 degree. Caught Walleye and White Bass mostly in the same area just down from the first bridge 231. Yes like the other reports you need stinger hooks for the Walleye alot of short bites. White Bass caught with minows as well and hit the minnows from the side as usual not touching the stinger. This time of the year you have to use very large minnows they will not touch medium or small very common for this time of the year because the forage has had all summer to grow and the fish expect larger size using smaller size is a red flag for them knowing something is wrong. Just years of experience tells me its common sense.

Fished from 7-11 am caught about 10-12 sauger all dinks, couple keepers. All were caught on jig and minnow with stinger hooks in 11' foot drop offs. med. minnows next time will try larger minnow and see if that makes a dfference. Not one white bass can't figure that out with the conditions perfect as far as water temp ? will try again in a couple weeks. Hope this helps good luck all. Sad
