Illinois River, Starved Rock (all postings)

Was in the tournament last weekend IWT caught 5 saugers 4 in the last two hrs caught one by Plum island and 4 on the peru flats all but one trolling downstream little shad raps on leadcore

Went down Sat and sunday. Absolutley destroyed them. 3boats 7guys limited out by 1pm. Mostley sauger and 3 walleye. Threw back all 14in and 15in. And just to make thing interesting for the tournament guys find 5 to 9ft depths and flat line black number 5 shadraps.

Anybody been out lately? Looking for info on saugers and possibly whites. Pm me . I will post tomorrow night on how I do.

dad went down to the wall this morning. came home with a keeper sauger and missed two others. said there wasn't much else going on. jig and minnow were the key.

I guess it could have been a sculpin instead of a goby. I did not check the pectoral fins. Either way, they both are reported to be in the River. I will check next time.

Thats insane that they made it all the way down there.

Tried from the wall again in the park. A little more action observed and experienced. Caught two saugers but both under size limit. I also caught 4 goby and 2 sticks. Saugers were on minnows and jig heads. Maybe in a few more weeks things will get better.

Started out in Hennepin marked some spots saw some fishing around the Grain dock west side but nothing for me. Loaded up went to starved rock leadcore trolled channel side of plum island got one 14 in hr before dark

Tried my luck off the wall at Starved Rock from, 10 to 3. It was a nice day and the bald eagles were around but not a single fish. There were about a dozen people there and I did not see anyone catching. Saw two people leave with a couple but not sure when they caught them. River is low. May have to wait a little more for the sauger to run.

Fished out of Spring Valley Yesterday. The wind was brutal at times. 4-6 other boats at the clam beds & under the bridge. Few bites here and there. Slow. Boated 1 keeper at 17" and a shorty. Fished with chartreuse plastic / heavy jig head and minnow.

fished from 9am-3pm water temp was a balmy 35.5-37F pulled lundy rigs and jigged fatheads and gulp from I39 to peru had three takes and only one sauger 15in boated, but better than a skunk! all in all felt good to get out on the boat since early january.

Most of the action has been in peru above the bridge.

Went out of bartos landing. Fished the deep holes with jigs and minnows. Ended up with 12ish?wind got real bad around noon and had to get off.nice to get on soft water again.

Went out of spring valley on the clam beds and snag hole. No saugers just two snagged asian carp
