Hey there Moose55...I could give you a few bits and pieces of advice. For one, if there are kids around, make sure you keep a close watch on them. With the rain this week, the river is gonna be running fast and if a kid falls in, it's a MAJOR PROBLEM. I know, it happened to my little brother a few years ago.

Second, keep an eye on the weather reports. Try and fish in an area along the river that has SOME slow moving water, that's where the bass will resurface for food (inland). Spinners, spoons, crappie rigs, and floating sinkers are really the best set-ups that I have found. You will want a larger weight since you are going to be on moving water. And REAL bait works better than a lot of the fake stuff people throw out there. Nightcrawlers are the best, and if you got kids....the bluegills will give them the time of their life! Smile

And last but not least...get out early! Yes, there are about 250 species of fish and other wildlife that live in the river, but your chances are better early in the morning. So grab your coffee, your wife, and your kids, and hit the road! Hope you guys do good...hopefully this was somewhat good advice?! Let me know how it went, love to hear if my advice worked!? THANKS!

My family and the neighbors are headed down to Starved Rock next weekend. I have never fishing the Illinois River and I do not have much experience with river fishing. I was hoping someone could give a bit of advice for tactics that work during this time of the year. Any sort of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Rob Smith

Just wanted everybody to know that Chris Brackett bumped us after we booked a bowfishing hunt with him three month ago and paid a deposit which he cashed. 4 people drove from Milwaukee WI and when we were almost there, he yelled and swore at us that we should have called sooner. We called several times and have it on record. He bumped us for some guys who flew in from CA and had more money than us. When we asked him to accomodate us by giving us the name of a competitor he wouldn't. I just thought you all should know about the egotistical jerk that failed to provide service on a hunt that we booked. I wish all the other locals well!

Help. What is water clarity? What is the temp? Is the water high? Can you see the rock pile off the island? The stripers are active?????

The rock pile near the launch is not visable and makes no eddies. The water is still high. clarity is poor.

Talked to Buster at the bait shop Tuesday, he said he had a few boats out, but no reports back. Water was up 3-4 feet and about 10 inches of clarity. Said it'd be about 2-3 weeks before the whites start getting crazy. Hard to say now with the rain/snow, might push the river up again Angry
