Long Lake, Lake County (all postings)

This problem exists all over. It seems as if people have to take fish no matter what size. There is not an unlimited supply in each lake. Those places the DNR has as catch and release only proves that a fishery can provide outstanding fun and isn't that what fishing should be? Time maybe for a creel and size limit in Illinois.

I have fished this lake a few days in the last few open water seasons. Seems like an ok lake. I read through the ice reports occasionally to see if it would be worth driving over to try hardwater fishin'. Doesn't sound too promising. It is sad the way people treat good bodies of water, like this one and SO many others.

Instead of griping about them, why don't you try giving the DNR guys a call, explain all the situations to them, I'm pretty sure they will do something. If you called in the past, call again, and again if necessary.

Even a "good" day at Long is a bad one. I can't fish it without leaving feeling absolutely defeated and bitter towards others. On any given day a DNR officer could right enough paper to pay their salary for two weeks -anybody that fishes this body knows this isn't an exaggeration, yet this stuff continues year after year. The DNR officers are useless and I doubt there are many residents that are going to give a spit when every single one of their positions are cut. I know I won't.

"Amen Blackjig". This is my favorite lake to icefish but production is way down. I never keep fish(I don't eat fish) so the few I have caught this season have gone back-mostly 5 inch Perch. I posted not to far back about the Garbage left behind, but the parking lot is worse-beer cans, bottles and bait containers. Hopefully the DNR will show up one of these days as they did last year. They made alot of money that day.

Another day of watching sniffers. Managed 6 smaller fish( 2 Perch, 2 Yellow Bass, and 2 Crappie)on a glow Toadie with waxworm(others were pecking on the bait but not hitting the hook). Fished 11 fow straight out. As a side note someone is going to get ticked off at the amount of trash left on the ice and particularly in the parking area(cans, bottles,boxes,etc.) Hopefully the owner of the property will not change the parking situation. Please pick up when you leave or we may lose the only parking for this lake.

hi i want to say that i was fishing today from 2/45 to 6/30 with my buddy, it was slow we catched 12 bluegills.the wind gave us a hard time so mabey we will come back soon,the ice is very solid its hard to belive that couple days earlier was warm good thing theres no snow.Use the ice cleats.

just wondering why nobody posts on this lake anymore i see guys out there daily. hows the fishing been? only been out there 2 times and did"nt do any good might give it a try tomorrow

is this a private or public lake? if its a public lake where can you park and get on the lake at? thank you very much

Lots of sniffers this AM. Fish very negative but started up around 8 AM. Turned out they were dink Perch around 5". I did manage to catch a 12" Yellow Bass but no Crappie or Bluegills. 5 other guys out with same results. Maybe the Crappie will start up. Fished 15' and others were trying shallower all with same result.

i see people out there everyday but nobody is posting whats going on ice thickness want to get the 4 wheeler out to cover some ground how are conditions? fish biten? what depth? thankyou

The bite was slow tonight on Long Lake. Managed a couple blue gills on a waxie. Ice was a solid 6" pretty far out (measured with a ruler). Should be getting better soon!

went to long this morning after fishing the t channel fished 10am til noon about 10 guys out some deep with no success and about 5 of us fished shallow right in weeds i got 3 keeper gills and i saw about 10 keepers caught i got mine on pink jig head with purple plastics (JR TAILS) ONLY SAFE ICE SEEMED TO BE BY TRAIN TRACKS GOOD LUCK BE SAFE
