I totally get and understand the 5 over 8 inches. I don't understand so t keep any gills til June one.  To me that is just going to increase how many smaller gills reproduce    any information on that reason?

That's a great bag/size limit that let's the fish spawn!  Pulling large bull gills off nests stunts the population.  Male gills protect nests and carry on the genetics, removing them opens the door for small male gills to spawn hence the stunting.  This is not some wild new concept, been studies for years over this.  Let the big gills go and keep some medium sized ones for the table.

I saw that bluegill and crappie are now cath and release April and may.   The limit for bluegill is 25 w 5 being over 8 inches.  That says to me there is a lot of bluegill and want the smaller ones out of the lake.   The don't keep any through may offsets my theory. Anyone have ideas of why it's been change for bluegills catch and release through may?

Fished may 6 for a bit.  Water was cooler than I wanted but definitely not a warm consistency in spring weather.   Moved several spots and caught a few gills and crappy here and there.   Tried one last spot and got into gills, crappie and bass almost every cast.  Ended up being a excellent fishing trip with that one spot.   Can't wait to take the family again.

How did this last week of cold weather impact the ice thickness?  Did it build ice, or was there too much snow to build any new?  (Would be fishing East Marina)

Thanks
