Meateater38 the wife would be warmer in LOOSE layers, the way she is dressed in tight layers is not the way to go , no wonder shes cold, dead air is what keeps you warm between loose layers with rain gear to keep the wind out, open water in the spring is colder than ice fishing.

Not a report, just wondering what's going on with the Perch bite, is it happening yet,or is it a bit too soon. Coming from Milwaukee, and with the gas prices, I was hoping to get a little info before I make the drive. Any help would be appreciated. Booboo

FISHING REPORT
4/14/11 3:54 PM CST
Got the Ol' Man and the wife out on the water today for a nice lil afternoon of trollin. Got out of the harbor at 1630 and dropped lines. Zig Zagged around 20-30 and after about 45min got one on in 24fow on a clown XRAP. The wife caught a treble on the sleeve from a pole in storage so I pulled it out of her jacket, stepped down, and proceded to bury the same damn treble past the barb into my bicep. So my dad worked his magic with his pliers and wire cutters and in no time it was out. I might put an earing in the hole Pulled in rods and ran to the discharge and immediately got hit on a 00 orange dodger/green white homemade fly. Turned out to be a nice 7lb 'Bow.2min later got hit on the Xrap again, 3lb Coho, and again 10 min later on same line. Xrap was the hot bait. All 3 hos were in 24-30fow. Slow but fun afternoon and a nice bonus Rainbow. Nice ride back but the wifes cold even in a hot tub. ***Launched out of Northpoint

Any progress on the launch. Was out there sunday and talked with the guy from the bait shop. He said they were going to pour crete on monday no rain so they should have poured. It was graded and almost all tamped down and ready to go. Also he said the perch are still out pretty deep around 150 FOW and the water temp is at 38 degrees. Got the itch to get out. Was in FLA a couple of weeks ago and caught some big bass here's some pic's. Had to take the pictures myself with my cell phone so they did'nt come out to good.

FISHING REPORT
4/10/11 3:49 PM CST
Hit Winthrop at 9 this morning with my son, and it was WINDY. It was my first on the big pond for salmon in over 10 years and my son's first time ever. Once we got out of the harbor we trolled for about 15 minutes and then my son's rod just got absolutely hammered. He put the wood to the fish quickly and it had some monster runs and two acrobatic jumps. The whole fight only took about 7 minutes but the light tackle was really fun for my son. The hook popped out the second I netted the fish. One short strike and 5 more minutes later the wind picked up and we were back. I wasn't about to take any chances with my 16' Lund Pro V bass boat. We picked up the only fish on a silver and light yellow 5" rapala. No luck on the perch imitation rapala. Here's my son's first salmon.

FISHING REPORT
4/9/11 4:39 PM CST
Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 46° - 50° F Water Temp: 46° - 50° F
Got out thurs morn @0600 out of northpoint. Motored down to the discharge and started trollin for coho. Picked up two hos and 2 nice browns. The hos came on a chartreuse tad polly and the browns came on double orange crush spoon on a dipsey down 5ft. Moved over to the discharge current and started casting orange and silver cleos 3/4 oz and had a brown every 5 casts. Limited out in 35min. Went back out this morn and picked up 4 more coho in 23fow in front of the discharge, 1 on the tad polly, 1 on clown x rap, and 2 on a wonder bread spoon 5ft down on a dipsey. Moved back in to the current to cast and finished out our three man limit in under an hour. I got "skunked" tues and a guy told me that I should pour a can of tomatoe sauce in the live well to wash the skunk smell away, and Ill be damned if it didnt work. I now keep a can of tomatoe sauce with my flares and other emergency equipment. Also, we maneuvered under the discharge bridge and 4 casts with the lil cleos caught 4 suckers. Never thought of suckers as predatory fish. I took a pic of my buddys first one and told him this will probaly be the only time hed ever catch a sucker on a spoon. No, there not whitefish, just straight up musky suckers. weird a few other boats outside the current to and they all seem to have done well.

Catchrelease1260, to respond to your report just so you know the Perch season is closed in July.
Waukegan Fishing report, do to the NE winds mudding up the shore line and the Coho still being a little south of Waukegan the fishing is slow at best but the best is yet to come.
Also the Waukegan Launch ramps are being completly re-done and won't be ready for approx. one to two weeks.
