Last time at Evergreen ( 2 weeks ago) I had some luck on the dock by the bait shop, just east of the playground area. There are plants/reeds on one side and rocks on the other. I dragged along the plants and grabbed a couple of nice size croppies, but got hung up a few times as well.

On the other side of the playground there was some decent action on catfish, striped bass and carp close to the shore.

I'm new to the area, and I've been out to Evergreen about 5 times with little luck. I don't have a boat, so I'm looking for tips on location/method for shore fishing on this lake. At this point, I'd be happy to catch any species. Usually, though, I like to look for Bluegill, Crappie, and Walleye/Sauger/Saugeye. It'd be great to get some for a nice dinner! Any tips?

Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 81° - 88° F
Fished in the afternoon. The heavy rains have turned the upper half of the lake into chocolate. From there on towards the dam, it was clear and green. Caught 7 or 8 cigars, one 14 and one 16. I would imagine the heavy influx of water has turned the Saugeye bite off somewhat. Afternoons are not usually as good as mornings either. In a couple of days, the black water could be all of the way to the dam, especially if it rains more Thursday.

Crappie bite has slowed considerably in my opinion. Went there again this weekend and only cought very small ones. I may have been trying too shallow though as the spawn seems to be WAY over and most fish with any size have moved back out.

I hope to try to target the sauger this week in 10 to 15 feet of water.

Fished Evergreen both Saturday and Sunday. Saugeye bite is definitely on! Worked the weed edges in 8-10 feet of water with jig head and Gulp bait and limited out on Saturday. Went back Sunday and released my limit of keeper Saugeye that day as well.

FISHING REPORT

Conditions: Partly Sunny
5/16/2013 I am a die hard fisherman. Arrived at the lake at 5:30AM. The wind was dead quiet. We fished for crappies first. I keep nothing under 9 inches. I had been to the lake last Fri. and had caught a limit of mostly 10 inch and up blacks. They were all males They were not in the normal lay down trees, but up in small indents in the bank, with large bladed grass in them. The water temp started at 61 degrees, and ended at 64. I also caught 4 Saugeye. One 17 and one 18 inches. Today, the water temp started out at 64 degrees, and ended at 71. The crappies were in the grass in the morning, and later on could be caught farther out. They were in 18" of water to 2' of water. These were mostly blacks. I would say, that the next couple of days, the spawn will be on in full force. The problem is, that the lake is high, and some shorelines have so much brush laying in the water that the crappies can spawn up close to the shore, and cannot be reached. We were checked by the game warden, and he said that three other boats had a limit as well. We also caught several Saugeye, but did not fish for them until mid afternoon. Good luck fishing.

Update: 6 Crappies were 11 inch fish. All crappies were males but two. Only two white crappies. All caught on minnows.

Made it to Evergreen Friday evening for an hour and caught 2 crappie. Both on pink jigs under a bobber set at about 30". One male almost 9" and one female that was just over 10" and she was still very plump with eggs. Slow going, but considering the weather pattern we were in, I'm not surprised.

Crappie fishing Saturday May 4th. Didn't get a single bite. Didn't talk to anybody else that caught fish that day either. If the rain holds out I will try again this weekend.
