Not sure of the ice but as of yesterday, some open water by the pump house and a couple of other places. It also looked like the rain last week melted the edge of the ice. but it was skimmed over.

Was fishable in most areas on shallow end of lake. I would start in the area by the boat rental shop.

Just moved down to bloomington recently, need to ice fish bad. Anyone know when it freezes enough to go out, or how thick it is right now. I hate testing the ice on lakes i don't know very well, please help.

Well, it was a VERY busy day on the lake. Didn't realize it until I got there, but there was a Musky tournament on the lake. Fishing was pretty slow, but it was more about getting out with my cousin (which was a good thing). We got most results on jigs tipped with plastic, crawlers or gulp bait. We ended up with a few walleye, but only one keeper - in addition to an assortment of other fish (crappie, panfish, bass, etc...). Most fish were caught in the 12-14' range.

Good Luck out there!

How's the Musky fishing on this lake? Possibly planning on a fishing trip with my Dad this year and wanted to find out more about the lake. P.M. me with any details. Thanks for all the help.

Good Luck Fishing fellas! Wink

We did pretty good trolling the banks and casting small jigs with tube, came home with 18 fish over 10" and one over 12". Green was the hot color, tried white, brown, yellow, red, pink. Fishing should just get better now, they are still spotty but the bite is good.

Tournament Report

The tinboats.net tournament had mixed results - the rain and storms the day/night before might have had something to do with the slow results. Bass were hard to come by, but Matt from http://www.buildyourownbaits.com/ used one of his hand painted crankbaits to pull the winning weight 10.4 lbs (3 bass) - all caught withing trolling motor distance of the main ramp/beach area! You'll have to contact him for the actual color. I haven't seen anything like it in the stores. (Just putting a plug in for a nice guy - He's made me 11 lures so far, and I'll be ordering more this winter)

Crappie were biting just about everywhere near wood and deep water. Used small and large minnows with a yellow 1/32 jighead and small weight in front of that to get it down 2-3 feet. Could have limited out the whole family pretty easily, but we were just catchin and releasing.

All in all it was a fun trip!

Just adding this in case you were looking for somewhere to fish this weekend. I participate in website devoted to restoring and modifying aluminum boats (tinboats.net). We're holding a small bass & panfish tournament at the lake this weekend, August 21st. There is a per boat fee of only $25 and payouts will be 100%. Fish alone or fish with a partner. It runs Saturday from 6:30 to 3:30.

Weighing 3 bass and 3 panfish - catch and release.

Details here - http://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=15239

Or email me at will@silversstars.com.

I'll be sure to post a fishing report and pictures when we are done.

How's the fishing been lately? I read something about a fish kill in the pool below the spillway with some large fish unfortunately dying off. Looking to head out to Evergreen this weekend, and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tight lines!

Was out at daylight 06/29/10, and fished till late afternoon. Caught a lot of small Saugeye, and 5 keepers. One of which was 18.5 inches, and one which was 25.5". Caught a couple, including the larger one on a Chartruese curly tail tipped with a short piece of worm. Caught two including the 18.5" on a Chartruse spinner rig with a water leech.(I think red is better) Caught the other one on a small lure trolling. The wind was out of the north, and light. Hard to find them, but the few that were feeding were willing. Also caught a couple of 18" muskies trolling. Nice to see them.

My son hooked a nice muskie this morning. Came up out of the water and threw the hook. First hookup of the year for us (4th trip).

Got to the lake about 3:30 yesterday. Pretty windy, but nice out. Spent about 2 hours chasing fish around (tried jigs and crankbaits) with not even so much as a bite. Between 5:30 and 6:00 I found a little school in one of the bays (out of the wind) and managed to catch 5 or 6 saugeye, including a couple keepers. Once the wind calmed down a little bit (just enough for a perfect drift), I drifted with jig and gulp bait and picked up three more keepers. Got off the lake just before the storms rolled in.

5 keeper saugeye... just enough to feed the five members of my family - a perfect night.

Tight lines everyone! Walleye Run Bob
