FISHING REPORT
1/23/14 2:01 PM CST
I was out for a couple hours yesterday evening in the WIND. Didn't stay too long. Caught 1 nice white crappie. The water was dirty from the 3/4" of rain we got 10 days or so ago.

FISHING REPORT
8/7/13 8:17 AM CST
Conditions: Partly Sunny Air Temp: 81° - 88° F Water Temp: 76° - 80º F
I fished Tuesday 08 06 13. There was a light south wind up till 11 AM. I caught around 20 or 30 crappies on minnows. All of them were caught on the south edge of a hump close to the Comlara Park point. It has some brush on the outside drop-off. The fish were in 6 to 10 foot of water, right on the drop off. As long as the wind was blowing, the fish would bite. When the wind died down around noon, the fish quit feeding. I tried many other places that I have caught them in the summer, from the dam to deer Island, but nothing else was working. The fish were mostly small males around 8 inches long. I only kept 9 inchers, so I ended up with 9 of them. On the south side of Deer Island, where the blacktop road is, I caught a couple of medium sized bass, and one small walleye. Nothing on the hump south of Deer Island. Nothing on the flat underneath the power lines down by the dam. There were only around 10 boats on the lake. The temperature was perfect for fishing, and it was enjoyable.

Try slip-bobbers with plain aberdeen hooks under tipped with a minnow (hookeed through the eyes). If you toss them around any shoreline that's wind-blown and contains any brush whatsoever, preferably one near or on a point, you should limit out on decent crappies pretty quickly. Cast out beyond the structure & let the wind bring your slip bobber rig over or just into the structure (play with the slip depth so you don't get snagged) and you should get strikes just as it nears the structure.

Soooo...I just got home from Evergeen and to my disappointment I saw the gate down below the spillway is STILL open. I'm a bit disappointed that park personnel haven't shut it completely...

Comlara Park staff maintains the spillway. I looked down there around 8pm on Tuesday night. All the dead muskies that were floating and hanging on the fence Sunday morning were gone and the gate looked to be shut to me, so I think the maintenance crew had been down there at some point.

Anyone know if the gate has been shut completely down below the spillway? As of Tuesday evening it was still open about a foot at the bottom allowing fish to swim out downstream. Is the county responsible for maintaining it?
