Galena area catfishing? (all postings)

Hey just wanted to let you guy's know I did catch my first channel cat was pretty cool! In ended up fishing over off 20 w by the boat ramp on the east side, The fishing was off I think were I fished, Cats would pick up the bait and drop them, Chicken livers were by far best for me, over stink bait, I meet 2 brothers that are 76 and 83 yrs old that hit it every day and they said that cats were off as of lately? and it showed for sure but caught some white and striped bass so pretty good deal there, Great river you guy's have down there be proud of it for sure! Walmart has nightcrawlers and the other stanky catfish baits.

im not exactly sure where theres a biat shop around there, if you are able to bring the bait with that might be the best.yea 20minutes should be fine maybe streach it to 30 minutes ha. alls im sayin is dont waste your time being in one spot all day not catchng any. 3-8 pounders are normal for us to be catching some days we can get maybe 30 fish caught and then other days we dont get any!.we always just use the jugs of stink bait with the dipping worm that seems to work fine.where are you launching from? nightcrawlers will work too (trot lines)

Thanks for the tips guy's we leave mid next week for galena kind of pumped for these cats, not really looking for big cats they would be nice for sure, more or less looking for action and eaters. So I should move after every 15 or 20 min if no action right? also what size cats do you guy's like to keep for the table 2 to 4 lb,ers sounds right? and stink bait is the way to go I have a bunch of these uncle josh bait tubes that you shoot this stink bait in right? Also are there any bait shops local to Galena for this stink bait and extra tips? Thanks again guy's Aron

many good cat spots out there! we have a place pretty much on the miss. shore fishing isnt the best. best would be going out fining (watch for logs in the water) the deeper holes and fish in the deeper holes.bait we have a trick up our sleeves...stickbait....cheesewiz mix together. fish for 15 minutes if you dont get any move on thry another stop. only takes those fish a couple minutes to smell/locate the bait. we fish from chestnut to the locks

I have had great luck on the Mississippi near Galena from shore using Skipjack herring or shad as bait for big cats. You may have to do a little hunting around at the bait shops to get one of these 2 species, but they do produce! I learned this from an old man that grew up on the Miss. and have many a fish fry as a result of using these baits. Hope that helped!

Hey folks, I am going to be in the galena area around the 14th of july for a family reunion. Now what I looking for is some info on catfishing around the galena Il area and is there a bait shop around as well looked on the web can't find one? I have never fished them before and have no idea where to even start as far as waters I will not have a boat with just fishing from shore, not looking for anybody secret spot just a few spots I can fish from shore to take home a few meals for a group fish fry,also what would the best bait be for this time of year most likely will be fishing channel cats?
