Fishing was rough. Spent first half of day looking for some Walleye. Nothing. Second half 2 small bass but list a doozy 5 pounds plus. Water temps started at 47 and the south shore surface temps topped at 60. Great day to be out. I think we need another 5 degrees of water temps for fishing to pick up.... Stay thirsty my friends
I doubt ice is out yet. I was there last week Thursday and it was still all capped. walked out a little on some major slush and was guessing there was still 4 inches good where I drilled. I couldn't see down the hole because of how muddy the water was. My pucker factor was triggered and I opted not to fish lest I go swimming inadvertently. Shores and bays may be open by now... Won't take long now that there's sunny days!

Was out yesterday with my dad and 4 other guys. Fished the south half of the lake. Got out at 830 and we were glad to see most of the snow was gone and all slush now frozen. Started shallow in 12' of water around a brush pile. Everyone caught fish, mostly gills with some crappie ( 1 keeper crappie 4 gills). headed deeper to trees. First spot in trees 34' of water, caught crappie consistently for 30 min only 1 keeper. Decided to move again. 4 guys headed deeper my father and I just a bit shallower. Fished 30' of water. Fish suspended at 24' and we caught them one after another for just shy of 4 hours. Was fun but lots younger year classes anywhere from 5" to 10" fish. Most fish were caught on Tungsten Mooska jigs with J and S custom plastic. Blue jig Orange tail with waxie was best with all purple and purple with white being great as well. Green did nothing( surprised). The bigger fish came on Gold Swedish pimp with 1 waxie....that said I caught 5" fish on the pimp a few times as well. My father and I kept 6 fish a piece. I cant stress enough on taking a spud bar, yesterdays snow coverd the ice again and I have attached a picture of bad spots you will fall through if you step on. Spud bar went through with little effort and these were open all the way through not just to another layer of ice. I found a half dozen of these spots through out my travels from southwest half way to the far east trees. Be safe! stay on top

Was out yesterday. Made my way out to the deep trees. Most spots I fished had anywhere from 7-9 inches of solid ice under 3 inches of half frozen slush. I was breaking through the slush with almost every step.
I would guess that, that all froze solid over night. I would strongly suggest using spikes on your boots.
As far as fishing, I caught crappie pretty much all day. Kept 6 nice crappie and I did get into a few gills. I got one keeper a little over 8 inches.............F.P.??
Was out to the road bed yesterday from boat launch. Some areas of thaw and refreeze where you break through to water and then another 6 to 8 inches of ice others just slush under snow. Found some areas with no slush. I could see plenty of wet slushy areas from handicap pier to somonauk point. Had 8" of ice at bridge under 2 inches of crap or 3 inches of slush depending where you were. Ice was pretty soft as well with plenty of air bubbles in it. Was gona go tomorrow bt think I wait for things to crisp up a bit Thursday night. Will post ice conditions for south end Friday PM.
I was out this past Sunday. Ice thickness was about 9”. Water was flowing out of each hole I drilled. Assuming it was due to the weight of the snow on top of it. Landed a nice cat and a few small perch. Didn’t move around much because it was a pain pulling the sled in the snow.
